New World Lodge is perfect if you’re on a budget and looking for something close to Khao San Road, but a bit away from the noise and confusion of Khao San. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from the Khao San Road area in an authentic Thai neighborhood. Food and internet outside the hotel both good and cheap. There is a klong right behind the hotel which may or may not smell, depends on whose review you read, maybe it depends on the sensitivity of your nose.

The hotel itself is a bit old and wearing out, but the rooms are clean and spacious and the service is reported to be first class. Some have complained of small cockroaches, but I think this is fairly common in the budget hotels around Khao San. Water pressure in the hotel is good and typical of many Bangkok hotels the water is not as hot as we westerners are used to.

If Khao San Road is what you want then the New World Lodge is right up your alley. Cheap, clean and close to the action, but still quiet.

The Dusit Island Resort is convenient to everything Chiang Rai has to offer, and is only 11 km (6 miles) away from Chiang Rai International Airport. Just a short 5 minute drive to the Chiang Mai city center.

Downsides of the hotel noted are the bathrooms are run down and shower pressure is non-existent. Also, the breakfast at the hotel while very good is not included in the price. Other than that the Dusit Island Resort is probably the best hotel in Chiang Rai.

The views from the hotel are spectacular, just like a picture, with longtails on the river and the mountains, forests and farms of Chiang Rai as a backdrop. The staff is worthy of a 5 star hotel and there is a great steakhouse on the roof of the hotel where you’ll get a great meal with amazing scenery.

Also highly rated by many travelers is the pool at the Dusit Island Resort. No mention was made of the rooms either positive or negative, so I have to assume they are adequate, but not outstanding.

The Seeharaj Hotel is convenient to everything Uttaradit has to offer, and is only 100 km (62 miles) away from Uttaradit International Airport. What? 62 miles? There has to be something closer.

Each of the 124 rooms at this 3-star hotel have all the comforts and conveniences of home. Included in all rooms are clock radio, telephone, air conditioning, television, private safe, minibar. For the comfort and convenience of guests, you’ll also travel counter, conference rooms, restaurants on-site. Sauna, outdoor pool are on-site for guests’ enjoyment.

The reviews available for the Seeharaj Hotel claim that it is old and run down and the staff speaks very limited English. Or maybe they just don’t care? Anyway, what do you expect for $25 a night and my guess is you won’t be spending much time in Uttaradit anyway. On the plus side is the rooms are clean and the hotel food is good.
