The Royal Princess Larn Luang Hotel is located outside the main Bangkok areas of Sukhumvit, Silom and Siam and offers an oasis of relative calm compared to these parts of Bangkok. You’ll find that Royal Princess Larn Luang Hotel is still a good place to stay though. You can quickly get to the ferry piers which will take you to all parts of Bangkok and connect you with the BTS terminus. Central Mall Pinklao is a short ride across the Pinklao Bridge and Khao San Road is a short 10 minute taxi ride away.
The rooms here are large even by Bangkok standards and the service is exceptional. Food at the hotel is average, but you can quite easily get fed from a variety of street vendors near by or head off to Central Pinklao where there is a large variety of restaurants and a food court.
Royal Princess Larn Luang Hotel is a great price in a decent location if you don’t mind being off the beaten track. Westerners may find that they won’t see another European at all during their stay here. I personally stay in the Pinklao area each time I come to Bangkok and rarely see another foreigner. If you want to see the real Bangkok come to the Royal Princess Larn Luang Hotel and avoid the tourist traps.

The Sawasdee Krungthep Inn Hotel may be the best of the Sawasdee group. It is not as close to Khao San Road as other Sawasdee properties, but is still within a 5 minute walk. It is just as inexpensive as other Sawasdee properties however and has the added bonus of being quiet, truly clean, more spacious and has a staff that is top notch.
Each room comes with private bath, air con, TV and actual hot water. You really can’t beat the Sawasdee Krungthep Inn Hotel for the price anywhere on Khao San Road. Add to that the movies and cheap beer in the lobby area and you have a real winner in the budget accommodations category.

Sawasdee Smile Inn Hotel is basic cheap accommodations in backpackers central Khao San Road. Don’t expect anything and you won’t be disappointed. Small rooms (like a closet), no elevator, indifferent staff and simple basic breakfast.
You may save a couple hundred baht by staying here, but you can save that by drinking one or two less beers a day. Shell out a couple hundred baht extra a night and you’ll get a much bigger room somewhere else. If you absolutely NEED to stay on Khao San Road and nothing else is available then go ahead and give Sawasdee Smile Inn Hotel a try. Let us know what you thought.
